My Story
My journey into the world of drones might be a little different from most. By day, I work full-time as a steelworker, with over six years of experience in some of the toughest environments you can imagine. I started my career at Orb Steelworks in Newport, and when that site was shut down, I moved on to the Blast Furnaces in Port Talbot, and then continued to progress, working in the Granulated Coal Injection Plant (GCI).
Following the unfortunate closure of the heavy end operations at Port Talbot, I’m now continuing to work in Llanwern. These roles are not just physically demanding, but also where safety, precision, and following regulations are critical.
But flying drones was always my escape – a hobby I turned to in my spare time. I’ve always been fascinated by the perspective a drone can offer, especially capturing industries like the one I work in from above. It was through this passion that I saw an opportunity: to take what I loved doing in my free time and turn it into a business that could serve the local community and industries in new and innovative ways.
Cosgrove UAV Services was born out of a desire to blend my experience in heavy industry with cutting-edge drone technology. I know what it’s like to work in challenging, high-risk environments – whether it’s dealing with molten metal, confined spaces, or dusty, explosive atmospheres. I’ve been trained to follow strict regulations and legislation, so safety and attention to detail are second nature to me.
Now, I’m taking that same mindset and applying it to my drone services. Whether it’s conducting property inspections, aerial photography, or mapping, I’m bringing a work ethic that’s rooted in safety, precision, and hard work. I may not have a team behind me, but I make up for it with dedication, experience, and a genuine passion for what I do.
